Bhubaneswar, Aug 21:
Teachers of block grant colleges in Odisha have withdrawn their agitation after a written assurance from Higher Education Minister Dr Pradip Panigrahi to consider their demands, said sources in the block grant college teachers association.
The Minister sought one month’s time from the agitating college teachers to look into their demands, the sources added.
Around 10, 000 block grant college teachers and employees marched in a massive rally, which started from the railway station her and culminated in a protest meeting at the lower PMG square on Thursday. They had warned to lock up their colleges and sit on dharna till their demand is met.
There are about 15,000 teachers and employees in the 662 and 488 aided colleges getting block grant. These employees, irrespective of their categories, are demanding abolition of block grant and implementation of Grant-In-Aid (GIA).
