Aska, July 16:
A 20 member team of the Odisha BJP today visited the house of the 14-year-old girl Jayanti Nayak alias Banita who committed suicide by setting herself ablaze on June 25 after her parents said they didn’t have enough money to buy her basic stationery like pencil and notebook and other study materials.
The team, led by BJP state unit secretary Prabhati Parida, held discussions with the bereaved family and came to know that the family had not been provided any benefits by the government under any welfare scheme.
“If such heart wrenching incidents fail to awaken the government from its deep slumber, then it has no right to continue in power even for a day. If the state government fails to rehabilitate the family of Jayanti within a reasonable time period, we will draw the attention of the Centre in the matter,” said Parida.
