Bhubaneswar, Oct 23:
The Odisha BJP today suspended senior BJP leader Ashok Sahu for gross indiscipline and resorting to the media and social media to air offensive statements against the party leadership.
The party has also issued a show cause notice to Sahu asking him why he would not be expelled from the party for the indisciplined activities.
“Sahu has been violating the discipline of the party and going to media and social media against the state leadership. So, the party has suspended him from the party,” BJP spokesperson Sameer Mohanty told media persons here.
Mohanty said Sahu has been asked to respond to the show cause notice within seven days and explain why he would not be expelled from the party.
Sahu, who was an aspirant for the party ticket for the Kandhamal Parliamentary seat, had tweeted against the state leadership demanding introspection over the defeat in the by-polls.
“Kandhamal PC by-poll result is lesson for BJP to introspect why Modi wave is diluted in Odisha unlike any other part in the country,” Sahu had tweeted.
He had also made statements in the media blaming the state leadership for the defeat and importing a BJD leader and fielding him in the Lok Sabha bypoll while ignoring its own party leaders.
Reacting to the suspension order, Sahu said he is yet to receive the suspension order from the party. He, however, described the party decision as ‘rather unfortunate’ and said he would give a fitting reply to the charges made out against him.
Sahu, perceived to have been close to the Union Minister Jual Oram, was a vice-president in the state BJP.
