Odisha BJD MP Kalpataru Das resigns as party leader in Rajya Sabha

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Sept 11:

In a much belated move, former Odisha minister and BJD strongman Kalpataru Das resigned as the leader of the BJD Parliamentary Party (BJDPP) in the Rajya Sabha, party sources said this evening. Kalpataru Das

His resignation was accepted by the party president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who at long last asked him to step down today.

BJD Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Tirkey has been appointed as the new leader of the BJDPP in the Upper House, party sources added.

In his resignation letter addressed to the party president Naveen Patnaik, Das said, ” I have been targetted (sic) by certain individuals for the last one and half month(sic). False and fabricated allegations are being made one after other systametically (sic) to tarnish my image. I feel by such allegations, the image of my leader Sj. Naveen Patnaik and my party Biju Janta Dal are (sic) being tarnished.

“I have been loyal to my leader and the party and have worked sincerely. I do not want the image of my leader and the party to be tarnished.

I do hereby tender my resignation from the post of leader of Biju Janata Dal Parliamentary Party and request you to accept it.”

Das has been in the eye of a storm over the acquisition of multiple plots and houses under the discretionary quota as well as massive accumulation of property by him, his son and other members of his family.

  1. Sri Kalpataru Das is not doing any mercy on the people of Odisha or on BJD by giving his resignation as the leader of the BJD Parliamentary Party. He and his son should have been thrown out by Mr. Naveen Pattanaik immediately after the land scam was exposed by the media. It is a matter of investigation as to why Kalpataru changed the surname of his only son from “DAS” to “BALABANTARAY”. I think the title was changed only to secure black money and unaccounted for property in his son’s name, which he has grabbed in his political career. I do not think Odisha people will be satisfied till they see father and son behind bar.
