Bhubaneswar, Jun 12:
The aggressive remarks of a senior leader and spokesman of the ruling BJD in Odisha has put the party in a state of utter embarrassment.
According to reports, BJD MLA of Bolagarh-Begunia, Prashant Jagdev had assaulted a former sarpanch of Begunia recently. Following the incident, there has been tension in the area in the last four days.
However, senior BJD leader and Mahanga MLA Pratap Jena, in a briefing to the media on Thursday, advised the sarpanch to bear such assault as the local MLA is young and gets irritated at the slightest provocation.
However, the statement of Jena has put the ruling party in a fix as several opposition leaders have strongly reacted to his adamant statement to the media.
While senior BJD leaders have also condemned his statement, sources close to the party circles said the party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik has been apprised of the incident in New Delhi.
It may be mentioned that the chief minister, in order to restrain his party colleagues from giving any statement of their own, had selected 10 spokespersons to allow them to speak to the media on any issue on behalf of the party.
He had given standing instructions to these spokespersons to give uniform statement to the media while keeping the party’s stand in mind.
