Angul/Cuttack, Aug 18:
Six out of the 16 Congress workers, who were arrested on charges of damaging public property and attack on the IIC during the Congress sponsored Odisha bandh on August 16 and were on hunger strike since Wednesday have fallen sick.
While four out of the six including the president of the Angul district unit of the Congress Pratap Chandra Pradhan have been shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack as their condition deteriorated, the remaining two have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Angul.
“They sat on hunger strike yesterday. They neither took food nor water. Later in the evening health condition of six of them deteriorated. Four of them have been shifted to Cuttack,”said Janardan Mallick, jailor Angul jail.
Cuttack Nagar Congress Committee president Mohammad Mokim visited the SCB Medical College & Hospital and enquired about the health condition of the four Congress workers admitted there. He demanded best of care for them.
It may be mentioned here that Congress workers had gheraoed the SP office at Angul protesting against the arrest of the 16 Congressmen. Congress workers also held a meeting at the protest site and allegedly pelted eggs at the policemen present there.
