Bhubaneswar, Mar 22:
The Odisha Assembly cutting across party lines today unanimously resolved to lodge protest with the Centre over shifting of the rail wagon repair factory from Narla in Kalahandi district and demand re-establishment of the same.
This was announced by Speaker Niranjan Pujari after about two and a half an hour special debate on the issue today ending the two day long deadlock in the Odisha Assembly.
Members decided that the House committee on Railways will meet Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and hand him over a memorandum requesting not to shift the proposed rail wagon repair factory from Narla in Kalahandi district to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The government told the House that it has provided around 110 decimals of land in two places in Kalahandi district for setting up of the proposed project. The ruling BJD protested against the Centre’s decision to shift the project without informing the state government.
