Bhubaneswar, Mar 21:
The Odisha Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes over shifting of the proposed wagon repair factory from Narla in Kalahandi to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh following which Speaker adjourned the House till 3 pm.
Soon after the Zero Hour ended, BJD legislator Amar Prasad Satpathy raised the issue of shifting of the proposed wagon factory at Narla and termed the move as another instance of Central neglect towards the state.
The Opposition Congress too created a ruckus over the issue and demanded discussion on this following which Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House till 3 pm.
Notably, the shifting of the rail project came to the fore through an RTI application by one Hemant Panda of Tikarpara in Bolangir.
In reply to his query, the authorities said that the decision to shift the factory was taken in view of the operational benefits available at Visakhapatnam.
Besides, the RTI reply also revealed that the Railway Board is currently reviewing the feasibility of the proposed wagon factory at Sitapali in Ganjam district.
During the 2015-16 Rail Budget, Centre had allocated two rail projects for Odisha in Kalahandi and Ganjam districts.
With the information obtained through the RTI query, uncertainty looms large over the fate of these projects which has caused widespread resentment among the citizens in the state.
