Odisha Assembly: Ruckus by ruling party, opposition mars Question Hour

Bhubaneswar: Uproar by ruling BJD members and Opposition Congress and BJP legislators marred the Question Hour of the Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly today.

As the House assembled for the day, BJD members created ruckus targeting the Central Government over funding pattern between the Centre and the State for post-matric scholarship of ST and SC students. They opposed the Centre’s decision of decreasing its funding share percentage towards the scholarship programme.

Similarly, Congress and BJP members resorted to sloganeering over media reports on entry of CBI in the State Secretariat.

Amid pandemonium, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the House till 3 PM. After the adjournment, BJD MLAs staged a dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises.

Earlier, Congress had moved an adjournment motion notice over deforestation for establishment of a beer bottling plant in Dhenkanal district and sought a reply in this regard from the Forest and Environment Minister.

“The ruling party members were afraid of discussion on the adjournment notice over felling of trees for establishment of beer bottling plant in Dhenkanal. There was no reason for adjournment,” said Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Narasingha Mishra outside the House.

“A report regarding entry of CBI in the State Secretariat has been published in a particular newspaper. The State Government should give a clarification in this regard,” Mishra added.

On the other hand, BJD MLA Arun Sahoo said the media house which has reported about entry of CBI in the State Secretariat should clarify on the matter.
