Bhubaneswar, Aug 21:
Speaker Niranjan Pujari today adjourned the Odisha Assembly till 3 PM amid noisy scenes by both Opposition and ruling party members of the House.
As soon as the Question Hour started, ruling party members rushed towards the Opposition benches and caught hold of Congress chief whip and tried to prevent him from displaying a placard. Congress members protested standing up at their seats.
While Congress members remained adamant about their demand for a discussion on the Prakash Mishra issue, ruling BJD members asked Congress members to stop the natakbaazi (drama) since the Speaker had made it clear that the issue cannot be taken up for discussion. Congress has been demanding a discussion on the Prakash Mishra issue for the last three consecutive days disrupting Question Hour.
However, a notice for an adjournment motion on the Srimad Sarathi Baba issue served by the Congress today has been accepted by the Speaker and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will reply to the motion.
In an unprecedented incident, ruling party members prevented Opposition Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati from showing banners. Bahinipati alleged before reporters that BJD members overpowered him from behind by clutching his arms while somebody even tried to strangle him. “For a while, I thought I could get killed,” he said.
On the other hand, deputy chief whip of the ruling party Rohit Pujari said that the Congress was very good at acting. He said nobody had tried to strangle Bahinipati as claimed by him; they had only tried to stop him from disrupting the Question Hour in the interest of the people of the state.
