Odisha Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes over shifting of the proposed wagon repair factory from Narla in Kalahandi to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh following which the Speaker adjourned the House till 12:05 PM, and later till 3 PM after the house resumed at 12:05 PM.

While both BJP and Congress MLAs came to the well of the house and demanded a discussion over the issue, the ruling party members shouted slogans at their seats.

“We demand railway wagon or repair factories to come up in Kantabanjhi, Narla and in Ganjam so that the economy of the state can improve and unemployed men can get jobs. Yesterday, the government didn’t listen to us even though we protested democratically and staged a walkout. They didn’t even hold a meeting or consult with us on the issue. That is the reason, we demanded cancellation of the question hour and a discussion on the issue given its significance,” said Leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra speaking to reporters.

“The house had been adjourned on this issue yesterday too. We want a discussion over the issue so that the facts can come to fore. The people need to know why the factory was shifted and who should be held responsible for this. BJD is spreading lies. The fact is – they don’t have any data or facts with them. Odisha Government didn’t even know about it until an RTI activist exposed it,” said BJP MLA Pradip Purohit.

“We demand the Central Government to revise its decision and bring back the wagon factory to Narla. There is no issue of water at the site- as cited by the Center. There is a river and plenty of other water bodies around the site. It is difficult to understand the motive of the Union Government when there is no issue with water supply or land acquisition,” said BJD MLA and Spokesperson Dibya Sankar Mishra.
