A pilot hailing from Odisha died in the helicopter crash in Mumbai suburb Goregaon this noon.



The deceased pilot identified as Prafulla Kumar Mishra was flying a private helicopter with three others on board. However, the chopper went up in flames killing Mishra and injuring three others inside the forested Filter Pada area of Aarey Milk Colony at around 12.15 pm.

The helicopter, a Robinson R44 belonging to Aman Aviation Pvt Ltd, was on a sight-seeing flight over Mumbai.

According to witnesses, hundreds of people from nearby tribal hamlets inside the Aarey Milk Colony and some other settlements rushed to help the victims even as fire tenders rushed to the spot.


At least six fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. People and police personnel extricated the victims from the burning chopper and rushed them to the Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri East.

While Mishra was declared dead, a co-pilot and two passengers including a woman are reported to be in critical condition, a hospital official said.

The 52-year-old Mishra is a resident of Bhubaneswar and had joined Aman Aviation Private Limited after retiring from armed forces. (With IANS inputs)
