The state vigilance today arrested an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer for accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.
According to a Vigilance department release issued today, Subash Chandra Sethia, Land Acquisition Officer, Bargarh had allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from one Khira Meher of Kuchipali in Bargarh district for transferring over Rs 10 lakh to his bank account towards acquisition of land by the government.
The department laid a trap and asked complainant Meher to meet the accused officer at his office located inside the Bargarh Collectorate premises.
The accused officer, on receiving a positive signal from complainant Meher, asked Balistha Mahanand, Process Server of his office and directed him to receive the amount from the complainant, the release said.
As per Sethia’s direction, the co-accused Mahananda asked the complainant to come outside the office and received the amount from him near the play ground of George High School, Bargarh, it said.
While Mahananda was counting the money, Vigilance department sleuths pounced upon him and seized the bribe money, the release said.
Both the accused have been arrested, the release said adding they would be forwarded to the court shortly.
