The failure of the Odisha government to control the deadly dengue virus has resulted in an alarming rise in the number of patients in the state, which is all set to cross 3000 mark in a couple of days.
Sources in the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) said out of a total of 10,521 blood samples tested at various hospitals in the state so far, 2, 780 have been found dengue positive, Eighty seven patients tested positive on Thursday alone.
Considering the rate of increase in the number of patients, it is expected that the number could cross 3000 in a couple of days, reports said.
The number of patients in Jajpur district, which has already crossed 900, is expected to cross 1, 000 in a day or two.
Besides, the number of patients in Baleswar, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Keonjhar districts has crossed 200.
The reports also said that in some districts, some of the patients have been found to be afflicted with two different types of dengue virus.
While official sources have put the number of deaths due to dengue at seven, unofficial sources have put the toll at over 20.
