Bhubaneswar, Jan 29:
In an attempt to streamline the process and reduce backlog, regular passports will be issued in Odisha within a week’s time, according to new guidelines by the Union Ministry of External Affairs.
The applicant will be given five dates for appointment by the passport office in which they will be able to block a day of their convenience and appear in the office for document submission and verification process, Regional Passport Officer, Digvijay Giri has said.
Giri told media that application fee for a regular passport would now be Rs 1,500 and will be handed over to the applicant within seven working days.
Previously an applicant used to get a passport under tatkal scheme in 15 days and had to shell out Rs 3,500. Since a regular passport will be available in much a less time, there will be no need for a tatkal passport, he added.
Earlier, 16 documents were needed for tatkal passport and the applicant had to fill annexure-f form with three necessary documents and get verified by a designated officer. According to new guidelines, the applicant will need to fill up annexure-I for a regular passport along with three necessary documents: Aadhar card, PAN card and voter identity card.
The police verification will take place in the similar way as is done in talkal applicant.
