Taking a leaf out of the ongoing agitation by the lawyers of Sambalpur District Bar Association demanding a permanent bench of the Odisha High Court in the city, lawyers of Balangir District Bar Association have also demanded the same at Balangir.
The Association, led by its president Binayak Mishra, president of Citizens’ Committee Nilamani Mishra, president of Balangir District Chamber of Commerce Tripurari Panigrahi and Gopalji Panigrahi and leaders of different political parties staged a sit-in dharna in front of the municipality office here yesterday demanding establishment of a permanent Bench of the Odisha High Court at Balangir.
The agitators warned that they would boycott the ensuing urban local bodies’ elections if their demands were not met by the government before the elections scheduled to be held on September 19.
It may be mentioned that the District Bar Association, in its executive body meeting, had earlier decided to boycott the municipal elections in support of the demand for establishment of a High Court Bench at Balangir, which was supported by various organisations.
