Now all physically challenged persons in Odisha to get allowance

Bhubaneswar: In a welcome move, the Odisha government today removed the minimum age bar for physically challenged persons to become eligible for drawing allowance.

Earlier, a beneficiary was required to attain a minimum age of 5 years to be eligible to receive the allowance. Now physically challenged children below 5 years of age will be eligible for receiving allowance.

The decision to remove the minimum age limit was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to review Madhubabu Pension Scheme here today, said an official release.

It was revealed at the meeting that a total of 43, 25, 467 persons have benefited under the Madhubabu Pension Scheme in 2017-18 as against 42, 62, 935 beneficiaries as against last year, the release added.

The Chief Minister advised officials to remain on alert to ensure that no beneficiary of this social security allowance faces harassment or eligible beneficiary is left out.

Social security of unmarried women was stressed at the meeting.

The review was attended by Chief Secretary A P Padhi and several other senior officials.
