Bhubaneswar: The much sensational and widely talked-about Patnagarh wedding gift bomb blast case will soon be made into a feature film.
Titled ‘Bullet Raja’, the upcoming film is slated to be directed by Sridhar Martha and will be produced under Range Royal Cine Lab banner.
The film will portray every detail of the tragic episode and what provoked prime accused Punjilal Meher, an English lecturer at a college in Balangir, to commit the crime.
“I chose to make a film on parcel bomb blast case as I found this has everything which will appeal the viewers. This apart, one can learn many things from this story,” Martha said adding he has taken permission from police to go ahead with the project.
Sources said award-winning actor Manoj Mishra will play character of Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra, actor Hara Rath will be featured as the mastermind Punjilal Meher.
Odisha’s Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Meher, said to be the sole mastermind behind the Patnagarh blast in February, in which a wedding gift containing two bombs killed the groom and his grandmother while seriously injuring the bride in Bolangir district.
Police sources said accused Punjilal Meher was exasperated over the groom’s mother, Sanjukta Sahoo, succeeding him as principal of Jyoti Vikash Junior College that led to the crime.
Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra during a press conference on Wednesday said the crime was planned over eight months. “He bought firecrackers during Diwali and meticulously collected the gunpowder inside them to make 2 kg bombs. On the day he had to arrange for the dispatch, Punjilal took a class at college to mark his presence in town,” Bothra said. “He then boarded a train to Raipur without a ticket. To avoid CCTVs, he paid extra bucks to an auto rickshaw driver in Raipur to hand over the package to the courier service,” Bothra had informed media at a press conference here.
