Notorious criminal Mithun Bhuyan was injured in a police encounter on Bhanjanagar-Durgaprasad road near Soradevi Temple in Odisha’s Ganjam district early this morning.


A bike, a pistol, a magazine, 3 mobile phones and four live bullets have been seized from his possession, sources said.

Mithun sustained bullet injuries on his legs in the encounter and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, sources added.

According to reports, police tried to intercept the criminal and his aide Bagu Nayak when they were going through the road. However, they opened fire at the cops and threw bombs in order to escape.

Police fired back in retaliation in which Mithun sustained bullet injuries on his two legs and was nabbed by the cops.

Bagu, however, managed to flee the spot.

As many as eight dacoity cases are pending against him at different police stations. Mithun was also involved in a loot from a jewellery shop in Buguda on October 31, said Ganjam SP Ashish Singh.
