Bhubaneswar, Jan 1:
The Odisha government has issued notification to conduct elections for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Baripada Municipality following the recommendations of state election commission (SEC).
The SEC is likely to declare the poll dates for the two urban local bodies (ULBs) in the next three to four days.
The first meeting of both the ULBs was held on 13 February 2009 and their five year term expires on 12 February 2014.
“In pursuance of section 64 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 2003 (Odisha Act 11 of 2003), the state government do hereby call upon all wards in the city of CMC to elect corporators in accordance with the provision of the said Act and the rules and orders made there under,” said a notification of the Housing and Urban Development department on Tuesday. The department also issued poll notification for Baripada Municipality.
It is to be noted that this time the CMC mayor would be from among the elected Scheduled Caste women as the post has been reserved for them.
The government, following delimitation of wards, has increased the number of wards in Cuttack from 54 to 59.
