Bhubaneswar, Mar 1:
Former Police IG Anadi Sahu today reacted strongly to Sanjeev Marik’s criminal defamation suit and reiterated that Marik is a corrupt man.
“I am not worried about him moving court. He earlier tried to file a defamation suit against Prajatanatra some 20 years ago. It had been dismissed back then. I will only speak of his reputation in the court. Nothing more would be needed. Let the court take the call. He is a corrupt man. As per Supreme Court’s decision, there is nothing wrong in calling a corrupt man corrupt,” said Sahu.
Former DG Marik, on the other hand, warned that he would press ahead with a civil defamation suit.
Earlier in the day, he had filed a criminal defamation suit against Sahu in Bhubaneswar Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court.
“I filed the defamation suit against Sahu as he brought false allegations against me that damaged my reputation. My friends, family and acquaintances were worried over the issue. I moved court so that justice can be done. I will press ahead with a civil defamation suit too. I wanted to sue him for Rs 10 crore but given that the court fees would shoot up to Rs 30 lakh, I am considering the option to sue him for Rs 50 lakh,” said Marik.
“Even though I am not very sure, I assume he holds grudge over some of the incidents that occurred in the past during our careers. It includes the hooch tragedy in Cuttack when I was the SP of Bhubaneswar and he was the DIG here. While many people died in Cuttack, there were no such incidents in Bhubaneswar. In another incident, I turned down his request in a rioting issue that occurred in Rourkela,” he added.
