The heat wave like conditions will continue in the state with the mercury expected to rise above 40 degree Celsius this week in parts of Odisha, according to the regional meteorological department.
The mercury is expected to soar, reaching 40 degrees after March 11 in some parts of state, according to the weather department.
Bhawanipatna recorded the highest temperature with 39.2 degrees Celsius yesterday, while Malkangiri with 39 degrees was in second position, Bhubaneswar also sweltered at 37 degrees on Sunday.
Dry hot land wind from Andhra Pradesh is expected to raise the mercury in the State.
Some parts of Northern Odisha, namely Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, parts of Balasore and Sambalpur had received thundershowers for a couple of days keeping the mercury down.
But, the showers will abate leading to rise in the temperature, according to notification.
Notably, on February 12, the Odisha capital had recorded the hottest day in this month in three years with the day temperature hovering around 40 degrees Celsius.
