Interestingly, School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra is among the legislators who have been elected to the Assembly from the district.

As many as 1445 of the total 1929 government schools in the district are awaiting electricity connection to their institutions.

According to a report published by the District Education Office, eight schools do not have a building of their own while 819 schools have no boundaries, rendering it unsafe for students.

While there are 1398 primary schools in the district, 1195 of them have no electricity.

Similarly, there are 531 Upper Primary schools in Cuttack out of which 250 lack electricity and 148 have no boundaries.

Furthermore, almost 2890 schools have no electricity and 1638 schools have no boundaries out of the 3858 schools in the district.

This implies, 74.90 per cent of total schools don’t have electricity and 42.45 per cent schools lack boundaries.
