Rayagada, Dec 26:
For the first time since Independence, the villagers of the remote Niyamgiri area of Rayagada district in Odisha will ride the bus.
After a long wait of 68 years the Dongaria tribals have received bus services to their remote Parsali village.
The bus service connects the remote Parsali village inhabited by particularly venerable tribal group (PVTG), Dongaria Khonds, to Rayagada via Kalyansinghpur block.
The difficult hilly and forest terrain made it difficult to provide connectivity to the 12 kilometer stretch. Two buses will ply the route, a bus will leave from Parsali in 7 am to Rayagada and another bus will depart from Rayagada to Parsali at 5 pm everday, according to officials .
This service will help around 3,000 residents of the Parsali Panchayat, according to Block officials.
This is an effort by the district administration to strengthen infrastructure and connectivity among the tribals and thereby improve their economic condition, said Jagannath Mohanty, Rayagada District Collector.
Meanwhile, after power supply was provided to the Parsali Panchayat last year, the Sana Denganali village has been electrified now, he added.
