Bhubaneswar, Dec 26:
Former minister and senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik today demanded immediate release of the unemployed youths arrested during an employment fair in Jajpur.
“It is very sad that these youths were subjected to two days of intense physical and mental torture by the police for no reason. Anybody in such frustration would get agitated. I therefore request the state government to investigate the issue and immediately release the innocent youths,” said Patnaik.
Patnaik today visited Ragadi Jail in Jajpur and interacted with these youths.
The former minister said, “It is highly disappointing that an employment fair is organized largely for fresh candidates besides experienced youths but finally only experienced candidates are recruited and freshers are left out leading to disappointment and annoyance.”
Lambasting the state government, Patnaik said that though Jajpur is considered to be one of the industrially developed districts in Odisha, the state government had failed miserably in ensuring recruitment of local people.
“The employment fair was only a publicity gimmick as general elections are nearing. They are not concerned about common man’s good, they are only concerned about themselves,” he averred.
Odisha Jana Morcha leader and president of the Bekari Birodhi Abhijan Chandra Mishra has also demanded the immediate release of the four arrested youth.
Dubbing the arrests as ‘inhuman’, Mishra dared chief minister Naveen Patnaik to fulfil the promise in the BJD manifesto for the 2009 elections to provide employmen to 15 lakh youth in the state.
