A newborn girl child was rescued by passersby in a critical condition from a drain near Kamala Nehru College in Odisha capital.
The condition of the neonate being serious, she has been transferred to Sardar Vallabhbhai Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics also known as Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack on Friday.
According to police sources, Pinki Swain, who lives near Kamala Nehru College in Unit-1 area under the Capital police station limits, heard the cries of the baby yesterday morning coming from inside the drain.
After finding a newborn in the drain, she called others and slowly a crowd gathered around the drain and rescued her.
After lying in the drain in such cold conditions the infant was critical. The locals informed the PCR van and police admitted the baby into Capital Hospital here.
Since the condition of the baby was critical, the doctors in Capital hospital had referred the neonate to Sishu Bhawan, Cuttack.
The Childline protested against this decision, which created tension in hospital. Later, the baby was transferred to Cuttack in the afternoon.
