Tumudibandha, Dec 12:
In an unfortunate incident, a newborn baby died after delivery at the verandah of a state-run hospital late night on Saturday in Odisha’s Phulbani district due to medical negligence following delay in 102-ambulance arrival.
According to reports, Anil Digha’s pregnant wife Mita Digha of Sinemila village under Tumudibandha block in the district was admitted in Tumudibandha Community Health Centre (CHC) on December 9.
Checking her health condition on December 10, the working doctor had prescribed her high blood pressure medicine advising her to return home as the delivery date was expected 10 to 15 days later.
However, on Saturday night Mita experienced increase in labour pain after returning home following which her family contacted for 102-ambulance service at about 8.30 pm.
The conveyance reached around 10.30 pm and dropped the pregnant woman on the verandah of Tumudibandha CHC at around 11 pm.
Anil and his mother knocked two-three closed doors in the hospital but in vain. Later, they visited the house of a staff nurse on the hospital premises but she did not open her door citing she was off duty.
By the time, Mita gave birth to a baby boy on the verandah and a sweeper took them inside a room. Moments later the newborn baby breathed his last.
Staff nurse Rama Sundari reached the hospital and took the mother under treatment saying there was no doctor available.
