In a tragic incident, an 102-ambulance hit a gas tanker killing two, including a newborn baby boy, at Khallikote ghat in Odisha’s Ganjam district today.


While the infant and his uncle died in the accident, the baby’s mother, ambulance driver and assistant sustained grievous injuries. They were admitted to Khallikote hospital for treatment.

According to sources, one Kuntala Reddy of Palibandha in the district had given birth to the baby at a community health center two days ago. As the health condition of the baby turned critical, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Realizing no improvement in the health condition of the newborn, doctors referred the baby to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack.

Tragedy struck when the ambulance in which all of them were on the way to Cuttack, rammed into a gas tanker at Khallikote ghat. The baby and his uncle died under the impact of collision. A pall of gloom descended on the area following the mishap.
