The Odisha government has decided to introduce new measures to check sale and theft of kidney in the state.
Briefing the media today, the Director, Medical Education and Training (DMET) Dr Sonamali Bag said henceforth, the DMET Authorisation Committee will have two meetings on the first and third Saturdays of every month.
The committee, after a thorough verification of all documents as per the Organ Transplantation Act, will take a decision on applications for transplant within 24 hours.
The committee will also go for a video recording of the statements of the donor, recipient and their kin at the time of transplantation.
“In case any hospital violates the rules it would be investigated by the DMET while the police would investigate other aspects of the case”, Dr Bag said.
