Bhubaneswar, Feb 18:
While electricity consumers in Odisha are apprehensive of hike in electricity tariff from April 1, the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has made it clear that new tariff will be notified in the third week of March.
“State advisory committee on fixation of electricity tariff for 2016-17 fiscal met today. The meeting discussed and examined various demands put forth by different stakeholders. The OERC will notify the new tariff through a notification before March 20. The new tariff will be applicable from April,” informed OERC secretary in-charge Kamal Lochan Panda here today after the meeting.
The OERC secretary in-charge had conducted a public hearing on tariff fixation in which electricity producers Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), four discoms, power trading company Gridco, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) and State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) had opined in favour of increasing tariff. However, the move was tooth and nail opposed by Electricity Consumers’ Federation.
The Odisha Jan Jagran Manch today staged a dharna in front of the OERC office in protest against the move to increase electricity tariff.
