The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has served a notice to the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) over a complaint filed by former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang and asked it to respond within a month of receipt of the notice.
“The Commission has decided to investigate/inquire into the matter in pursuance of the power conferred upon it under Article 338A of the Constitution of India,” the notice read.
The Commission said that it may exercise the powers of Civil Courts conferred on it under the Article 338 A of the Constitution of India and issue summons for the appearance in person or by a representative before the Commission if it does not receive reply from the respondent within stipulated time.
The Commission has asked the DGP to submit the facts and information on the action taken on the allegations/matters by post or in person or by any other means of communication.
