Phulbani, Dec 12:
A four-member team of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) headed by its chairperson Sh Wajahat Habibullah visited Kandhamal district today.
The team first visited Nandagiri near G Udayagiri, a resettlement village, where people belonging to the minority community have been settled after the 2008 communal riots in the district, and held discussions with the beneficiaries about their problems.
The team later visited Gadaguda under Tikabali block, another resettlement village of minorities affected by communal riots and interacted with the inhabitants.
Chairperson Habibullah said some of the problems faced by the people of these villages will be redressed by the local collector while he will discuss others with the chief minister when he meets him.
A delegation of the Christian Jan Kalyan Sangh met the Commission at Phulbani and made a submission about the plight of villagers yet to return to their villages, livelihood issues and payment of nominal amounts towards ex-gratia, said Laxmikanta Pradhan, president of the Sangh.
The team also inquired about the progress of the cases pertaining to the riots from the government pleader Bijaya Krushna Patnaik.
Chairperson Habibullah had members Ajit Singh, Farida Abdullah and Nabel Rubela in his team.
