Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today wrote to Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad requesting the latter to take an early decision regarding establishment of permanent benches of the Orissa High Court in western and southern regions of the state.
“There is adequate justification for establishment of permanent benches of Orissa High Court in the Western and Southern parts of Odisha and the criteria laid down by Justice Jaswant Singh Commission are also substantially met. The parliament has the prerogative to establish such benches in exercise of its power under Entry-78 of the Union List,” Patnaik said in the letter.
The CM also mentioned in the letter that there has been persistent demand from the people of these regions for setting up permanent benches of the High Court to mitigate the inconvenience faced by the litigants.
He also assured the Union Minister that the State Government will provide adequate resources for establishment of the benches.
An early decision regarding the same by the Government of India will fulfill the aspirations of the people of these regions, Patnaik concluded.
