Bhubaneswar, Oct 25:
For a change, chief minister Naveen Patnaik chose to rise above his anti-Centre tirade and thank Union Rural Development minister Jairam Ramesh for the approval of 881 road projects covering 2982 Km at a cost of Rs 1,493 crore and the approval of 1184 Km costing Rs1,067 crore under PMGSY for the current year 2013-14.
Patnaik in his letter to Ramesh has appreciated the Union minister’s initiative to involve CPWD and CPSUs in implementation of PMGSY in Odisha while requesting him to sanction more proposals under PMGSY during the current year 2013-14 and extend fullest support in implementation of PMGSY in the state.
“We have taken steps for enhancing the implementation capacity by increasing the number of Programme Implementation Units (PIUs) to 60. In addition, we are keen to engage CPWD and other CPSUs as PIUs for execution of PMGSY works. Accordingly, I would request you to take immediate steps to firm up this arrangement”, Patnaik wrote in his letter.
“With the augmentation of our execution capacity, we would be able to cover the balance 13,500 Km (new connectivity) and 7500 Km (up-gradation) remaining to be sanctioned and constructed under PMGSY”, he added in his letter.
