Bhubaneswar, Oct 24:
The Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly and senior Congress leader Narsingh Mishra today demanded the resignation of chief minister Naveen Patnaik while asking him to order a CBI inquiry into the mining scam and put his ‘clean image’ to test.
Since no credible investigation is possible as long as Patnaik is the chief minister, he said, while pointing out that there is prima facie evidence of his complicity in the mining scam in the inquiry report submitted by the Centrally Empowered Committee appointed by the Supreme Court.
Mishra slammed the state government over the Thakurani B iron ore mine in Keonjhar, at a press meet here.
He said the Centrally Empowered Committee (CEC) appointed by the Supreme Court has clearly indicted the state government for the mining scam.
Mishra said the report of the Committee has shown how the chief minister and the then minister Mines had shown undue favour to a mining firm despite opposition from the then chief secretary.
The chief minister can emerge a hero and prove he is above board if he resigns and orders a CBI probe, the veteran leader said.
