Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated the 19th Edition of Enterprise Odisha.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister thanked the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII ) for choosing the thme “Accelerating Odisha’s Growth: Promoting Entrepreneurship, Enhancing Employability” and complimemnted it for keeping faith in the State’s potential in driving growth and development.
“Odisha’s GDP growth in both the industries and services sectors has been instrumental in the recent improvement in the state’s economic growth. Leveraging its mineral and other resources to create employment opportunities within the state will continue to be an important growth driver,” said Patnaik.
The CM also highlighted investments of over 200 billion USD that has come the state’s way during the last decade, most of it in the manufacturing sector. The growth in sectors like power, alumina, steel and IT Exportshas ranged between 400 to 1200 percent. Odisha has about 10 percent of the total steel production and 50 percent of the total aluminium production capacity of the country, he pointed out.
Outlining the key policy initiatives planned by the government, the chief minister said; “Odisha is in the process of finalizing IPR 2014, SEZ Policy, Special Investment Region Act, etc. The state has recently framed some key sectoral policies like ICT, Tourism, and Food Processing etc”.
Highlighting the policies and achievement and future plans of his government, the CM also said “Government has already set in motion initiatives to set up an Aluminum Park, a second Plastic Park and is in advanced stage of finalizing the plans for setting up the Petrol, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region. The government has also approached the central government to declare the industrial region at Kalinga Nagar as National Investment Manufacturing Zone to encourage local value addition, the State Government is actively pursuing measures to promote Food Processing industries, Tourism, Ancillary and Downstream industries based on steel as well as aluminium and significant focus has also been provided to the IT, ITES &ESDM sector of the State. Over 215 acres of land have been dedicated to Info valley under EMC scheme of Government of India for setting up an ESDM cluster. With such a rich and diversified industrial base, huge entrepreneurship and employment opportunities can be generated in Odisha”.
