Ruling BJD supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday kicked off the campaign for his party candidates for the September 19 urban local bodies (ULBs) elections from his home turf of Hinjili in Ganjam district.
Addressing street corer meetings at various places of Hinjili, about 25 km from here, the BJD president assured the people that the candidates of his party would fulfill their aspirations and ensure development in their areas.
“I am sure you will bless our other party candidates. They will take care of the development of towns,” he said.
Patnaik expressed happiness as 10 of his party nominees have won uncontested. Elections would be held in 21 wards of Hinjili Notified Area Council.
Naveen will also campaign in some other ULBs including Bramhapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the district which has 18 ULBs.
The chief minister, party sources said, would campaign for the party candidates till September 17.
Meanwhile, BJP central leader Arun Singh campaigned for his party candidates in Bhadrak, Baleswar and Mayurbhanj districts.
Congress, which is yet to begin its campaign, planned to bring some central leaders like Jairam Ramesh, K Chiranjeevi, Sachin Pilot and others.
“I will also campaign in all the 66 urban local bodies going to polls on September 19,” said Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Jayadev Jena. (PTI)
