Bhubaneswar, April 5:
Maintaining that the BJD is scared at the growing Modi wave in the country, the Odisha unit of BJP today accused the ruling party of misleading the people of the state in a desperate move to fend off the wave that it said is threatening to upturn the BJD apple-cart.
The party was referring to the full page advertisement, published in all major Odia newspapers this morning, in which the BJD has accused leaders of national parties of shedding ‘crocodile tears’ for Odisha and asked where they were when Cyclone Phalin struck the state in October last year.
“The advertisement released by BJD asked the national parties, particularly the BJP, why they are coming here during the elections while they had failed to turn up during natural calamities. Let me make it clear that Odisha is not the ‘Jagir’ of a particular party. We have every right to campaign in the elections and to seek votes,” said national general secretary of BJP Dharmendra Pradhan at a press conference adding that Naveen has been afflicted with ‘Modi Phobia’.
Referring to the regional party’s allegation that national parties are begging for votes by invoking the name of Lord Jagannath, Pradhan said no one has patent rights on the Lord. “We all seek the blessings of Llord Jagannath and nobody has the patent right on the Lord. Besides, Narendra Modiji had come toPuri after being anointed as prime ministerial candidate of BJP. He has also been performing ‘chhera-pahanra’ (a ritual of Jagannath) in Ahmadabad during the chariot festival there,” said the BJP leader.
Seeking a CBI probe into the attack on Minister Maheswar Mohanty, Pradhan said the chief minister has handed over the pilgrim place to the criminals.
Replying to another question raised by the BJD about the absence of central leaders of the national parties during Phailin, the Rajya Sabha member said Venkaiah Naidu and several other senior leaders of the party had visited the cyclone affected areas and also met the Prime Minister to demand immediate release of Rs 1000 crore assistance to the people.
Responding to the BJD charge that the sole aim of ‘these parties’ was to grab powerint Delhi, he shot back: “What else is in the mind of Naveen Patnaik? Does he not want to be Prime Minister of India with the help of the 10 other parties who are ready to form a third front?”
“Naveen Patnaik wants to create instability at the Centre so that he can hide all the scams that had surfaced during his 14 years tenure at government. He wants to save his skin from chit fund and mining scam as the next government at the Centre will conduct inquiry into the scams,” said Pradhan.
