Odisha Congress workers today staged a Rail Roko in Kalahandi’s Narla protesting against the Central Government’s decision to shift the rail wagon repair factory from the town to Visakhapatnam.

Hundreds of workers of Narla Congress committee sat on the tracks and shouted slogans against the State and Central Government demanding an assurance to reestablishment of the factory in Narla.

Train services on the route were disrupted because of the agitation.

“The State and the Central Government have cheated us. The project could have made a huge contribution to local economy and created jobs here. While the Center shifted the project, the State Government did nothing to stop it. We want this project back in Narla,” said Ramesh Meher, a Congress worker.

It may be mentioned here that after two days of logjam in Odisha Assembly over the issue, MLA cutting across party lines yesterday unanimously resolved to lodge a protest with the Centre over shifting of the rail wagon repair factory and demand re-establishment of the same in the town.
