Jeypore, Jan 18:
Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) leader Nachika Linga’s nomination for Zilla Parishad member in the upcoming panchayat polls in Odisha got rejected during scrutiny today.
Linga’s nomination was rejected as the post of Narayanpatna Zilla Parishad member, for which he had filed nomination, is reserved for Other Backward Class (OBC) and he didn’t submit OBC caste certificate with his nomination paper.
Similarly, nomination of his wife Tikia for Podapadar Panchayat Sarpanch got rejected as she is unable to speak or write Odia language.
Linga, currently lodged in Koraput Circle Jail here after his arrest in 2014, had yesterday sent his nomination paper for Narayanpatna Zilla Parishad member to the district returning officer through his counsel Gupteswar Panigrahi.
“If Nachika’s nomination runs into trouble during scrutiny, it would be challenged in the court. Nachika was ready to move even the Supreme Court for justice of tribals,” Panigrahi had said yesterday.
Notably, Linga had surrendered before police on October 28, 2014 following which he was arrested.
With the help of left wing extremists, Linga had allegedly set up CMAS and become its leader demanding land settlement in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks of Koraput district. The CMAS members had also forcibly acquired land of non-tribals in Narayanpatna block leading to law and order problems in the locality.
This apart, several cases of murder, attack on police stations, arson, instigating tribals to taking law into their hands were pending against Linga in different police stations.
