Bhubaneswar, Aug 19:
Sarathi Baba’s close aide Pramod Mohanty, who was recently questioned by Odisha crime branch in connection with its ongoing investigation into the Sarathi Baba case, died under mysterious circumstances today.
As per sources, Mohanty fell sick this morning while he was out on some work. He was immediately taken to Cuttack based SCB medical College and Hospital where he breathed his last.
While it is not yet clear how exactly Mohanty died, relatives say he suffered a heart attack because of the stress and strain of intense interrogation by Crime Branch sleuths at a time when he was suffering from high blood pressure.
His dead body has been taken to his residence at Cuttack’s Jagatpur area but no FIR or any other complaint has been lodged with the police. Neither has the police taken any suo motto action on this case, even though they are monitoring the case closely, as per Jagatpur Police sources.
Pramod, who used to work in a petrol pump, was recently questioned by Odisha Crime Branch about a red colored Toyota Etios car (OD 05 K 0100) that was found parked outside the Singhabahini Club at Sigmapur village near Bahugram in Cuttack district on Aug 16 morning. The car had gone missing from the Barimula ashram of Sarathi Baba since the night of August 6 at the height of the protests in Kendrapara demanding the arrest of the Baba.
Stacks of incriminating documents and valuables are suspected to have been shipped out of the ashram in the car on the night of August 6-7, before Crime Branch sleuths entered the premises to conduct investigations.
The same car was also used by the Baba’s close associate Sarat Patra and two other followers to travel to Bhubaneswar to address a press conference in Sarathi Baba’s defence on August 5 after the scandal broke.
The car had been purchased for Rs 6.29 lakh in 2014 and registered in the name of Saroj Rout , son of Mayadhar Rout, of Barimula. Saroj is a relative of Mohanty and also a follower of the tainted Baba. .
