Berhampur, Mar 12:
Adding to the woes of former Odisha Congress MLA Ramesh Jena, two new cases were filed against him in two different police stations of Ganjam today.
While one of the cases was lodged at the BN Pur police station for his alleged involvement in a murder case, the other was filed at Berhampur Town police station for his alleged involvement in an attempt to murder, said a police source.
On the other hand, Berhampur SP Sarthak Sarangi last evening hinted that the police may seek extension of his remand once the five day remand comes to an end tomorrow.
“More and more people are coming forward to lodge complaints against him. All these allegations need to be interrogated. Besides, we are investigating the financial angle of the case. We would seek an extension of the remand, if there be a need,” said Sarangi speaking to reporters last evening.
“We have formed one team to raid and arrest Jena’s associates and another to look into the financial angles. We suspect that he may have invested his money in illegal tobacco manufacturing units, sand mining and buying properties in various places in and out of the state. New leads are coming up and they need to be examined,” he added.
Notably, Southern Range IG Amitabh Thakur yesterday said that the cops had found links of Jena with Green India Private Limited, a Ponzi firm which has allegedly defrauded crores of rupees of investors. They also had seized a bullet proof Toyota Lexus car that allegedly belongs Jena. The cops suspect that the car was bought with money received from the ponzi firm.
