After evading arrest for six days, the instructor of Bhubanananda Odisha School of Engineering (BOSE) accused of molesting a girl student of the school during practical class was finally arrested by Commissionerate Police this morning.
Durga Kumar Sinha, the accused instructor has been arrested from the city and will be produced in the court here today, Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora said.
The arrest comes on the day the school is set to reopen after three days due to the agitation in the campus demanding the arrest of the accused instructor and transfer of the Principal for alleged inaction.
The victim was allegedly molested by the accused Sinha on Monday (March 30) during a practical class in the workshop. Soon after the incident, the girl student lodged a complaint with the Principal of the college before lodging a formal complaint at the Mangalabag police station.
Alleging inaction by the school authorities, the diploma engineering students of the government-run school had gone berserk and vandalised the classrooms and other properties inside the campus on Wednesday.
The protests continued for the second day on Thursday. Later during the day, the victim, a first year student of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering had deposed before the sexual harassment cell of the school and recorded her statement.
Following the unruly situation in the school, the students forced the authorities to suspend the classes till today.
With the arrest of the accused Instructor, normalcy is expected to return to the campus.
