Bhubaneswar, Mar 14:
Acting on the directive of the Election Commission of India, mock polling rehearsals in 25 districts of Odisha have been successfully conducted.
A similar exercise will be conducted in the remaining five districts within a week.
Informing this at a press meet here on Thursday, State Joint CEO Jyoti Prakash Mishra said in order to allay the apprehensions of the voters over the transparency in polling through electronic voting machine (EVM), the ECI, for the first time, has directed the state Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) to conduct mock polling in every polling station an hour before commencement of the formal voting process.
He said as per the EC directive, about 1000 mock polling would be held in five per cent of the EVMs in every district in the presence of district electoral officers (DEOs) and the polling agents of the candidates.
The mock polling, known as First Level Technical Checking (FLTC), would be held after the loading of EVM tracking software in the presence of the DEOs after which the printouts of the polling would be provided to the political parties. Later, the data would be deleted and the printouts would be destroyed by the presiding officer, Mishra said, adding that the mock polling would be conducted in all the 35,896 booths of the state.
