An angry mob set ablaze a sand-laden Haiwa truck at Damana square under Chandrasekharpur police limits in Odisha capital this night after it ran over a youth killing him on the spot.
The deceased,in his 20s, has been identified as Ashis Kumar hailing from Bihar.
Following the mishap, which took place at about 9.30 pm, irate locals set ablaze the truck and blocked the road connecting Nalco square to Patia and Damana square to Saileshree Vihar disrupting traffic for two hours.
The Haiwa truck bearing registration number (OD-02-H-8441) was burnt down completely by the mob, who demanded the arrest of the killer driver.
Police sources said the truck, which was travelling from Damana square towards Chandrasekhapur DAV public school hit Kumar, who was on his bike going in the same direction from behind and ran over him.
Later, the zonal ACP and Inspector-in-charge of the Chandrasekharpur police station reached the spot and tried to persuade the locals to lift the blockade. When they did not obey the instruction, police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, the body has been sent to Capital hospital here for post-mortem.
