Bhubaneswar: A group of unidentified miscreants allegedly murdered a teenager and injured a youth grievously in Baramunda area of Odisha capital last night.
The deceased has been identified as Shivashankar Gouda (19) of Tapoban slum. His friend Linga Reddy (24) sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital here for treatment.
According to reports, Shivashankar and Linga were returning home on a motorcycle during which around 10-12 miscreants intercepted them on road near a pond in Baramunda area.
They attacked the two with iron rods and sharp weapons leaving the duo critically injured. The attackers fled the spot soon after committing the act.
On being informed, Khandagiri police rescued the victims in a critical condition and admitted them to the Capital Hospital, where Shivashankar was declared dead.
As per the statement of Linga given to police, the assailants reside in Baramunda area. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the wrongdoers. Though the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was a fallout of past enmity.
Deceased Shivashankar had a dispute couple of days ago with a group of persons, who might have murdered him, sources said.
