Cuttack, Jan 19:
Union Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Sunday said he would soon write letters to all Chief Ministers advising them to scrutinize expeditiously cases pending against youths of various minority communities languishing in Jail for more than 5-10 years.
He was talking to media persons after addressing the9th Raising Day ceremony of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at its 3rd Battalion at Mundali near here.
“The term minority does not mean only the Muslim community. There are other minority groups residing in the country,” the Union Home minister said when asked if it was not a move aimed at garnering the votes of Muslims in the coming elections.
In response to a query on Maoist violence, he said the concerted, coordinated and integrated efforts by both the centre and the states have started showing results.
“As a matter of fact, the volume of violence by Left Wing Extremists is steadily decreasing, as top leaders are being trapped one by one,” Shinde said.
