Bhubaneswar, Jan 26:
Five days after the brutal torture of a minor girl, the commissionerate police are still looking for the accused couple who live in the Pokhariput area in the city.
Briefing the media on Saturday, DCP Nitinjit Singh said that the accused couple would be apprehended and interrogated very soon.
Meanwhile, the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) has recommended stern action against the accused couple.
In a letter to the city DCP, chairperson of the Commission Sruti Mohapatra has sought clarifications regarding the alleged refusal by the police to receive the complaint when the matter was first brought to their notice.
The Commission also took note of the inaction of the police in not taking immediate action against the accused couple and their attempt to settle the case through a compromise.
Meanwhile, the police on Saturday took the minor girl from Ruchika Childline to the Capital Hospital where the doctors examined the injury marks on her body.
Police later collected the injury report.
Meanwhile, the Khordha district administration has initiated steps for the rehabilitation of the victim following the recommendation of the OSCPCR.
The administration would take a decision on whether to hand over the victim to her family members or to rehabilitate her elsewhere.
It may be mentioned that the accused couple Prasanna Sahu and Gitarani Sahu had brought the girl from Basta area in Baleswar district to work in their house as a maid while assuring her family members of taking adequate care of her education.
However, contrary to the promise, the couple forced the girl to work beyond her capacity and beat her up mercilessly for any lapse on her part.
Unable to bear the torture, the girl managed to escape from the house on January 21 and reported the matter to the police and others.
