The incident occurred at Kaliahudi primary school in Dhurudiamba panchayat under Harichandanpur police limits while the injured student identified as Raju Kissan mistaking the crude bomb to be a cricket ball hit it on the classroom wall resulting in the explosion.

The injured student, Raju has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here and is undergoing treatment for his injuries.

“The child has received injuries on his eyes and other body parts. Though the eyes are injured, the danger of him losing sight is ruled out. He will get well soon after a few days of treatment,” said Dr Rashmi Ranjan Bhanja, the attending physician at the district headquarters hospital.

Raju, the only son of Benudhar Kissan and Jatri Kissan of Jamuda village had early morning gone to the nearby forest to collect kendu. While picking up kendus from the ground he came across an object resembling a cricket ball. The minor boy uninhibitedly picked up the object and kept it in his bag along with the kendus. After unpacking the consignment of fruits he set out early for the school to play with the new find.

However, his joy was short-lived as the object exploded after hitting the school wall.
