Bhawanipatna, Jan 18:
The last rites of the minor girl, who died after being set on fire by two youths at Madhupur under Narla police limits in Kalahandi district of Odisha, was performed at the village today.
Earlier in the day, the body reached Madhupur from Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela following which a pall of gloom descended on the village.
The victim had yesterday succumbed to her burn injuries at the IGH while undergoing treatment.
On the other hand, a team of Odisha Crime Branch led by an SP reached Madhupur today for investigation. The team will stay at the village till completion of the investigation, reports said. Another team of the agency led by a lady inspector is already probing into the incident.
The Crime Branch was yesterday allowed by the Kalahandi Additional District Judge (ADJ) court to take two persons accused in the case– Bulu Das and a minor boy– on a 5-day remand for further interrogation.
Notably, the girl was allegedly set on fire by Bulu Das and the minor boy at Madhupur on January 11 evening after they failed to gang rape her.
The two had earlier passed vulgar comments at the girl following which she told the incident to her family members. The girl’s mother had cautioned the two youths for their act.
Getting furious over the incident, the duo allegedly torched the girl at her house in the absence of her parents.
